- Conduit and wiring, run along walls or through your garage from panel to charger location. In Bend's cold winters, proper conduit matters for longevity.
- Charger mounting and wiring, hardwired directly or via a NEMA 14-50 outlet, depending on your preference.
- City of Bend permit, required by Oregon law; your electrician pulls it through the City of Bend Building Division before the work begins.

Hardwired vs. NEMA 14-50. Which Should You Choose?
This comes up constantly before every install.
Hardwired means the charger is wired directly into the circuit. No plug exposed. It's the cleaner installation, slightly safer (nothing for weather to get into), and what most Bend homeowners end up choosing. The downside is that swapping chargers later means calling an electrician.
NEMA 14-50 outlet means the electrician installs a 240V outlet and the charger plugs into it. This gives you flexibility, you can take the charger with you, swap brands without rewiring, or use the outlet for other 240V equipment. If you're at a vacation property that might have different occupants over time, the outlet approach has real practical value.

Does Your Home Need a Panel Upgrade First?
A Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 40–60 amp breaker. If your panel is full or is older 100-amp service, you'll need an upgrade first.
Quick check: find your electrical panel and look at the main breaker. If it says 100A, there's a real chance you need an upgrade. If it says 200A and has empty slots, you're probably fine.
